Do We Really Talk About Death?

Do We Really Talk About Death?

I can’t tell you how many times I have gone into a home to offer insurance coverage. I sit down with the person looking for coverage and talk to them about the products and services that I can offer them. I give them a quote for the coverage. Then they tell me that they want to talk to their family about the options available. I can understand that this is an important decision. But, let’s tell the truth most of us don’t like to talk about death. I have seen parents try to talk to their children and the first thing the child says is “I don’t want to talk about that.” Unfortunately, when the parent or family member dies we are faced with dealing with that reality.

I have found that parents find it easier to talk to their children about issues such as sex, or drugs. However when it comes to talking about something as important as how their family is going to manage the financial responsibility of paying for their funeral. The room goes silent.
